Oh, that looks really cool. Unfortunately, like you said, it's expensive. If iPads could have the same capability, it would be a lot more useful. Tablet devices are fun for interactive handwriting exercises in groups, but they need the same 'intended touch' differentiation to make them natural. A school couldn't really afford five of these tables for small handwriting classes. I'm thinking of relatively able-bodied children when I say children here, as that's the experience I have. The children I worked with had dyspraxia and/or dyslexia, so there wouldn't be a lot of justification for such a high-end piece of kit. Also, these don't look especially easy to move around, while tablets could be taken to different rooms or used on the floor without a second thought.
But I thank you for sharing Tap-It with me, as it's definitely looks like it has its uses!

You need to give yourself permission to make mistakes and write bad. It sounds like you are caught up by your internal editor telling you that you are not doing it right, which is rubbish, and you need to ignore that. The best thing you can do is stop thinking about how to start and just start writing. Since the idea came from a dream, just start describing the dream and let it go from there, if it morphs into something else, let it, you can always come back and rewrite it.

For instance, yesterday I knew I wanted to write a vignette for digiwrimo novel in a day and I wanted to include a character from a world I'd already created, so I had to decide which world would probably mesh most readily with other people's writing. I knew it would probably stay relatively close to reality, plain fiction if you will, without fantasy or sci-fi elements. Based on that I decided that the undercity would be the best fit. Then I had to decide who from the undercity and I just picked a few details, a teenage girl wearing a fox mask who delivers packages. At random I decided half her mask was blackened as if by fire... then I had to imagine why it might be that way, had she been in a fire? Maybe it had been burned, if so was she wearing the mask (when it got burned)? One thing led to another and before I knew it she had a love interest in Rodrick who had no interest in her because of the burn scars.

On the one hand all the details of my place are fictional, but on the other doing a little pre-writing research that you can pull from later will help if you feel the need to be exact. I'm a big fan of throwing stuff like that to the side unless it's absolutely necessary though. And for a first go at something it might be best to just toss it out for the moment and get ink on the page or pixels on the screen... The first step is often the hardest but you don't have to stick with what you write. ^_^
Give yourself permission to make a mess, that's the best advice I can give.

I wish I knew the answer--I struggle with that, too. I started focusing on screenplays for a while because it was much easier to explain what I was envisioning as a movie instead of a novel, but I get too wrapped up on the details for authenticity and worry that I can't do justice to a male's perspective, for example, or that I don't know enough about the career I'm trying to portray for my heroine and therefore it'll reek of being fake. Ugh. I have seen this done very poorly by writers who are successful in that they have sold a lot of books, but I still can't figure out why because their characters are not real, do not ring true, and it's obvious they're written by someone from a different culture who does not understand what she's trying to make obvious. Ugh.

Awww, thanks for the comment! I can't crochet, but I plan on trying it as soon as I've got knitting down. I think mastering one confusing skill first is good enough for now! I love the idea of handmade, personalised gifts. I've already promised my immediate family scarves and phone covers for Christmas since they donated to my knitting cause. Handmade things are just so much more meaningful. Good luck with your crocheting! :)

The experience gave me insight into how much I’ve learned over the past three years, as I could compare my own thinking with that of the second year students and see the increased depth of my considerations. I thought of a lot more applications for the virtual reality technology we used, and I probably should have kept my mouth shut so that the others in my group could think a bit harder!
Don't worry, I never forget anything. Except when I'm writing disserations, as then I seem to forget what I did the day before, or even an hour before. Days become blurs, and my once powerful memory becomes a shadow of itself.

I'm a bit scared to post about my dissertation before I've submitted it. I might jinx it. So I'll post a layman's summary once it's in. :)

I'm a bit of a cheeky guv so I feel I should offer some critique. Your blogging has dipped quite furiously in the past year. Tut. Tut.
And you haven't updated in at least a month. How am I, curious follower, meant to sate my thirst that is the knowledge of your life?

Also, I know not a jot about OT, although I'm a reasonably intelligent adult. Particularly your dissertation topic - I know technology, but I don't know OT. There's a segue there from something people know to something they don't, which is a pretty reliable way to teach. Because I don't read this to be bamboozled, I read to learn.

My usual style of critique is the 'compliment sandwich' but I jumped straight into the deep end. So... You are a star. You're a star. You're a star, you're a star. You are a big, bright, shining star. (That's what Dirk Diggler from Boogie Nights would say. If you haven't seen it, watch it.)

Also I'm this guy:
